What advice would you give to a young player trying to get better on their instrument?

The best advice I can give a young player is to not rush the process. Take your time learning the fundamentals so that a strong foundation is established. The better you become fundamentally, the more you will enjoy to practice. Once this established, there is no end to your success.

Describe the musical environment you grew up in.

I grew up in a rather musical environment. My father was the lead trumpet in a popular Texas Tejano band called the Latin Breed for about fifteen years. I was around famous Tejano artists like Little Joe, Mazz, Jay Perez, David Lee Garza, Ram Herrera , Selena, and so on.  Music played around the house was Earth, Wind and Fire, Malo, Kool and the Gang, Tower of Power, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, and of course tons of Tejano.  I had the luxury of growing up hearing great music as well as being influenced to play my trumpet.  Having this musical surrounding has definitely led to success today.

What is the highest note you can play?

The highest note I can hit regularly would be a double C. I have been known to get lucky and hit a double D.
